Getting Around The Local Area By Bike

Depending on how confident and fit a cyclist you are, there are a range of destinations that can be accessed by bike from Skelton Lakes. A bike ride into Leeds City Centre will take less than 30-minutes, following the designated cycle paths, whilst there are a range of more local services, facilities and employment opportunities that will take just a few minutes to access on two wheels.

The National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 67 can be reached in minutes and runs alongside the Aire and Calder Navigation Canal – with a stretch between Chesterfield and Leeds forming the Trans Pennine Trail Central. This is a signposted route, with many off-road sections.

If you’re not as confident a cyclist, there are plenty of open spaces for you to enjoy by bike that are close to Skelton Lakes. Temple Newsam is a 7-minute cycle from the development and provides a great space for people of all ages and abilities to practice their cycle skills.

Leeds City Bikes

Launched in September 2023, Leeds City Bikes by Beryl is an eco-friendly and affordable e-bike hire service in Leeds. The aim of Leeds City Bikes is to create a network of e-bikes across the city, providing an accessible and cost-effective way for people to travel more sustainably.

The e-bikes are accessed via the Beryl app, which is free to download, and can be picked up and returned to docked bays, meaning bikes aren’t left cluttering up roads or pedestrian pathways.
